Devotion
The early church dealt severely with the issues of sexual sin (1 Cor 5:1-5). Paul commanded that this sin be purged from the church (1 Cor 5:9-11), emphasising it with the warning of 1 Corinthians 10:8. Peter’s stand was consistent with Paul’s (1 Pet 4:1-3). John quoted the sin of Balaam
(Rev 2:14-16, 20) and issued a prophetic warning concerning the future waywardness of the apostate church (Rev 2:21-23). Spiritual purity must be a distinguishing mark of genuine believers as they practice the fear of the Lord in these last days (Eph 5:3).
