“When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy/”
Job 38:7 (NKJV)
“When the morning stars were singing, and all the angels chanted in their joy?”
Job 38:7 (Mof.)
One sunny morning in 2001, one exquisite (very lovely) verse ‘leaped’ out of it’s pages, beaming with illumination: “But joy comes in the morning.” What comes in the morning? Joy! “…. tears may visit us at night, but in the morning there are shouts of joy.” (Psalm 30:5, Mof.). The word ‘morning’ comes from the Hebrew word BOQEX, means dawn or the early hours of the morning. The author then realized that whoever welcome the dawn with joy shall have a good footing for the whole day.
“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity … Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (Psalm 32:1, 2, 11) The psalmist David offered here three cheers of joy as a token for the memorable and unforgettable (sacrifice of Calvary) mercies of the forgiveness of sins. Live in constant gratitude and joyful thankfulness towards God by being ever mindful of their great redemptive salvation. ‘My soul shall be joyful in the Lord; it shall rejoice in His salvation.’ (Psalm 35:9) We shall rejoice evermore for our names are written in the lamb book of life. (Luke 10:20)
“If you have no joy, there’s a leak in your Christianity somewhere.”
Joy is reflective! “Wine to make them happy, olive oil to make them cheerful …” This gladness comes from the ‘oil of joy.’ (Psalm 104:15; Isaiah 61:3) The devil knows that he is impotent as long as this irresistible joy is flourishing. The high-spirited, effervescent bubbly joy is the mainspring pf victory and the devil shall bow in hasty retreat, if satan cannot captured your joy, he cannot harass you. He has no access in your life. The deliberate chuckling of laughter at dawn is an amazing ‘disinfectant’ that keeps every evil at bay throughout the day.
“The jubilant joy is the jolly sunshine that drives away the harsh winter from every heart.”
“…. In him you ever believe, though even now you see him not and you are rejoicing with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” (1 Peter 1:8, Montgomery) Indeed, joy is the radiant glory of every Christian face. Wherever the light of joy is found, darkness surely checked out. (Psalm 89:15; 16:11) When you switched on the light in the evening, do you need to pray for darkness to go? Stop trudging. Start walking in the light of revelation bearing this redemptive mentality: ‘Who delivered us out of the tyrannical rule of the darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” (Colossians 1:13, WUEST) Exercise yourself in this qualitative jubilant (triumphant rejoicing) walk with God. Indeed, joy gives ‘wings’ to our faith to soar high in God.
“At present you trust him without being able to see Him, and even now he brings you a joy that words cannot express and which has in it a hint of the glories of Heaven.” (1 Peter 1:8, JB Phillips) Joy is the atmosphere of heaven and we can create our own heaven by promoting joyance laughter as a lifestyle. “Cheerfulness and contentment are great beautifiers and are famous preservers of youthful look.” (Charles Dickens). Joy carries a magnetic force that will always attract the attention of divinity: “Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem … He will rejoice over you with gladness, he will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:14, 17)
“Be rejoicing in the Lord always. Again I say, Be rejoicing.” (Philippians 4:4, WUEST) ‘Celebrate God all day, every day I mean, revel in him!’ (Message) Joy is the nobility of the Christian heritage. Friends, nothing gives colour to Christianity like Joy. Joy makes you colourful and a distinction on the earth. As the seven colour of a rainbow, so paint your life with one colour with each passing day. The life will be an interesting portrait of a master piece of artwork.
Be ever vigilant of the sapping foe, depression for it debilitated (weaken) the joy of the believer. Depression hinders your access to God (Psalm 100:1-5); Depression ruins your health (Proverbs 17:22); Depression sentenced a man to bondage under cruel curses (Deuteronomy 28:47-48); Depression retard your flight to the high places in God (Habakkuk 3:18-19); Depression destroys your harvest (Joel 1:16-17); Depression robs your fruitfulness (Isaiah 16:10; Psalm 113:9); Depression over-rule (dominate) victories of men, but Joy ordains champions of men. ‘The joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.’ (Nehemiah 8:10) The word ‘strength’ is Maoz means a fortress, rock and stronghold. Joy is your mighty fortress that no evil can assail through. Be unflinchingly resolute to outlaw this scum and flushed it out of your family.
Joy is the hallmark of Edenic blessedness: ‘For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.’ (Isaiah 51:3) You have a royal claim over joy. For you are the noble citizen of the kingdom: ‘For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.’ (Romans 14:17) Declare the reign of the kingdom of God daily and let joy rules the atmosphere of your home.
Joy is the pace-setter in our Christian race. It is a stamina booster that inoculates the overcomer with enduring strength. (Hebrews 12:1-2) It is the thermostat that determined the level of your victories in life. (John 16:33) Joy is great ventilator of your heart. (Isaiah 65:14) One fine morning at 9.40 am on 14th May 2003, the Lord reinforced the conviction to welcome dawn through his precious scripture, “You make the places where morning and evening have birth to shout for joy.” Psalm 65:8, Amp.) ‘You can give occasion for rejoicing at dawn and sunset.’ (Harrison) Declare every day that by the power of His mercy, the day will be favourable toward you: ‘The Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime ….’ (Psalm 42:8) ‘To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night.’ (Psalm 92:2) ‘Cause me to hear you loving-kindness in the morning, for in You do I trust.’ (Psalm 143:8) ‘Mercy’ in Hebrew is chehed means the goodness in the Lord. “O Lord, I thank you that every good thing and the goodness of the Lord are flowing into my life. Today is a good and blessed day!”
