For thou wilt bless the just, o thou Eternal, shielding them safe, crowning them with thy favour.”
Psalm 5:12 (Mof.)
“You surround him with the shield of your good will.”
Psalm 5:12 (NASB)
The above scriptural quotations are ‘physics’: the cause and effect of the kingdoms laws. The justice of God are always measured on an even balance scale and His judgements are full of righteousness. (Psalm 33:5; Isaiah 33:5) He has made known His ways to men through the testimony of His word. Whoever abides and heeded His commandments and wise instructions shall never set foot on a wrong path and certainly shall not be visited by evil.
Wisdom has called and understanding lifted up her voice in the city and the House of the Lord. She has uttered her cries in the streets and at the gates of the city. (Proverb 8:1-6) This is her choice fruit to all who embrace wisdom: living a righteous and upright life before God shall tasted riches of His goodness. Indeed, the price for the prize of such blessed life is pliability (easily persuaded or yieldedness) to the blessed will of God, the will of God via the revealed principles of the word are the divine ways or royal road that leads to His favour and honour as well as exquisiteness (finest, highest quality) of blessedness in life.
Observe the precious prayer of king David. “Lead me, Lord, in thy righteousness because my enemies are on the watch; give me a straight path to follow,” (Psalm 5:8, NEB) How does God revealed the royal road or straight way before you? This royal road is His good will for your life: “Lord, I have so many enemies! Lead me to do Your will; make Your way plain for me to follow.” (Psalm 5:8, GNB) The Living Bible expressly says, “Tell me clearly what to do, which way to turn.”
Truly, the will of God is a straight way not a crooked path. Living a ‘straight’ life before God will procure His good pleasure upon us. The word ‘straight’ is yashor, a primary Hebrew root that denoted anything that is straight or even. It speaks of a prosperous journey. Your ship will sail upon smooth waters. “Make thy path smooth before me.” (Mof.) Spiritually, it means uprightness or ‘rightness’ of a matter. Remember, “A just balance and scale belong to the Lord; all the weights of the bag are His concern.” “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord. But a just weight is His delight.” (Proverb 16:11; 11:1, NASB)
How does one knows whether he is on the royal road or a bend path? Learn to examine our ways habitually and regularly before the Lord: “All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives.” (Proverb 16:2, NASB) David understood clearly that the guidance and the leadings of the Lord never depart from His righteous principles. For he knew his God; “For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteousness; the upright will behold His face.” (Psalm 11:7, NASB)
Righteousness is the cornerstone of faith and the sure foundation of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. The right way or ‘straight’ way will always be attractive and pleasant to the righteous saints. We must cultivate not merely to do right but ‘being’ right. The inside and outside our constitution and action must be made right (aligned) in accordance with His righteous nature. Then we will be confident that He will make a straight and prosperous way before us. “You bless those who obey you, Lord; your love protect them like a shield.” (Psalm 5:12, GNB) Determine to excel this year in righteousness and God who so please to endorse such a life shall crowned you with loving kindness and exceptional (special) favour all the days of your life.
